Amazing Thames Valley Company: Gigaclear, Abingdon

Selective Group · March 7, 2020 ·

Fact: anything with the word mega in automatically sounds cool.

For example: Sega Megadrive. Megatron. Megaphone. Megastar. Megabyte. Megawatt. Megapixel. Omega. And of course, mega.

For those that need to know, mega means one million and is ancient Greek for ‘great’.

So by our reckoning, anything with the word giga in must therefore be twice as good. Or, if you want to get technical, one million times as good.

That’s because giga means one billion and is the Greek word for ‘giant’.

Which means that this week’s Amazing Thames Valley Company is already automatically cool just from its name. And they’re also based in God’s favourite town on earth: Abingdon!

It’s Gigaclear!!!

Gigaclear is an award-winning ultrafast fibre broadband provider to rural Britain and was founded in just 2010, currently employing over 250 people.

Back in the early noughties, rural communities in the UK had one broadband choice which used  antique copper-based networks – resulting in the inability of households and businesses to access fast or reliable internet connections.

With copper networks unable to offer the speeds that households and businesses increasingly and critically demanded, Gigaclear saw the opportunity to invest in a specialist state-of-the-art fibre network, bringing ground-breaking digital connectivity to over 200 communities.

From their first network built in Appleton, Oxfordshire, Gigalcear now offers the fastest connections to over 65,000 rural homes and businesses and a growing broadband customer base.

To date, Gigaclear covers over 22 counties across the South West, Midlands and South East of the UK, with the ambition to reach 500,000 premises by the end of 2024!

All together now: We say giga. You say clear. Giga! Clear! Giga! Clear!

So from everyone here at Selective Recruitment to everyone round the corner at Gigaclear, we salute you!

Job Satisfaction

Selective Group · March 3, 2020 ·

Although money is often a key driving force it is important to do a job that makes you happy. The majority of us spend one-third of our adult life at work so we want to show up for more than the paycheck. Do you get excited by what you do? Do you find your work fulfilling? If not, why not? Think about what you like about your position and what you would like to change. If the second list is longer than the first perhaps it’s time to consider a change.
